Soccer Loses to UPS Saturday, 2-0

The Pioneer Women's soccer team dropped conference opener against the #11 University of Puget Sound Loggers this afternoon 2-0 (box score).
The Loggers scored both of their goals in the first half of the game. The first goal, scored around the twelve minute mark, resulted from a bit of a scramble in front of the net following a corner kick. Adrienne Folsom had the first shot off the kick, which as blocked by Pioneer goalkeeper Nora Germano (senior, Los Altos, Calif.). Germano was caught on the ground after the block, giving Logger Alyx Tilley a clear shot into the net.
The Loggers second goal was made around the thirty-five minute mark. Katie Gillette shot a ball that drifted over the head of Germano and into the back of the net.
PSU's defense domintated the field for much of the game, limiting the Pioneers shot count to zero in the first half and two in the second half. Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills, Calif.) recorded both shots for the Pioneers.
The Pioneer defense held their own throughout the game against the strong Logger offense, which had fourteen shots, eleven of them on goal. Germano had nine saves on the game.
The Pioneer Women take on the Pacific Lutheran Lutes tomorrow in their second home conference game. The match begins at 12:00 noon.
