Delgado Named NWC Defensive Player of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. – Elise Delgado of the
women’s soccer team has had one heck of a start to her
collegiate career, battling through two double-overtime games that
ended tied 0-0 and an amazing 5-0 home victory over Warner Pacific.
The freshman goalkeeper has played an instrumental part in helping
guide the Pioneers to one of the programs best starts in years. Now
the Northwest Conference is taking notice, naming Delgado the NWC
Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Delgado has been a goal scorer’s worst nightmare this
season, playing like a brick wall in goal for the Pioneers. The
rookie keeper has come up with 19 saves this season, including 11
against Northwest Nazarene in the Pioneers 0-0 tie on Saturday,
Sept. 12. In the teams 5-0 win over Warner Pacific on Monday, Sept.
7, Delgado came up with three saves, while helping keep the defense
organized.
The Pioneer soccer team is currently 1-0-2 on the season and is
set to return to Griswold Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 16, playing
host to Evergreen State at 5 p.m. Admission to the game is free to
all who wish to attend. Can’t make it to the game? Watch the
