Women's Soccer Set To Battle Knights in Season Opener

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
women’s soccer team is set to kick-off their 2009 campaign on
Tuesday, Sept. 2 as they hit the road to take on Warner Pacific at
7 p.m. The game will played at Portland Christian High School.
The Pioneers, who were picked to finish ninth in the Northwest
Conference, will have several new faces on the field this season,
returning just seven players from last season's squad, while adding
11 true freshman and a junior transfer.
Liska
Havel, who was named to the Northwest Conference All-Conference
Second-Team at the conclusion of last season, is the team's lone
senior. Also returning are juniors Katie
Browning, Stella
Gilliland, Annie
Hancock and Aly
Robinson. Sophomore midfielders Natalie
Stratton and Gillian
Sullivan-Bing also return for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will rely on freshman Elise
Delgado in net this season, as she is the teams only listed
goalkeeper. Playing in front of Delgado will be rookie defenders Maddie
Harper, Alli
Moy-Borgen and transfer Catherine
Kitts. Fighting for a starting spot in the midfield will be
newcomers Molli
Bauke, Lexi Bolton, Katie
Cabuling, Harper Kaufman, Illana Livstrom, Gina Watkins and
Katrina Weisbecker. Elsa
Sweek will team up with Gilliland and Browning on the front
line.
Following their contest with Warner Pacific, the Pioneers will
make their way home to face Northwest Christian on Monday, Sept. 7
at 3 p.m. at Griswold Stadium.
