Sports Information Intern
PORTLAND, Ore. - After a 20 minute delay in starting the game the Lewis and Clark women's soccer team battled Whitworth to a 1-1 tie in double overtime during Northwest Conference play at Griswold Stadium Saturday morning.
The first half started slow with neither team firing off many shots. Whitworth (4-2-1, 1-1-1 NWC) got on the board first in the 21st minute with a goal by Tiara Pajimola. Pajimola dribbed it up the right side and fired a shot that bounced off of the left goal post into the back of the net. For the rest of the half both teams exchanged shots but neither were able to get on the scoreboard.
Less than two minutes into the second half sophomore Anna Thorndike tied the game at one for Lewis & Clark (4-1-1, 1-0-1 NWC). For the next 63 minutes both teams had opportunities to score but junior goalkeeper Geena Fong's nine saves and Whitworth's goalkeeper Andrea Stump's 12 saves kept both teams scoreless for the rest of the second half and both overtime periods.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22, as they take on Whitman at Griswold Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 12pm.
