Women's Soccer Takes Down UC Santa Cruz 3-2

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team collected its first win of the season on Monday defeating UC Santa Cruz 3-2.

The win moves the Pioneers to 1-1 on the season, while the Banana Slugs fall to 1-1-1.

Lewis & Clark struck first with a goal from Marley Hauser in the 21st minute of action. Hauser got her foot on the ball after a scramble in the penalty area off a Megan Ratfield corner kick. Ratfield played the ball in, which found its way to sophomore Isobel Fikso who then knocked it to an open Hauser.

Raquel McNeff made it a 2-0 game for the Pioneers in the 37th minute after playing the ball across the frame of the goal. Instead of finding a teammate, the ball made its way into the far top-corner of the net for McNeff's first goal of the season.

UCSC worked its way back into the contest in the second half with two goals just 10 minutes apart, evening things up at 2-2.

With four minutes remaining in regulation time a Ratfield corner kick once again produced a goal for the Pioneers. This time the junior forward was able to find an open Emily Thompson for the game winning goal.

Geena Fong earned her first win of the season in goal for L&C, coming up with five saves in 90 minutes of action.

Lewis & Clark returns to the field on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. at Claremont-M-S.
