Fong Comes Up Big For Women's Soccer in 0-0 Double-Overtime Draw Against Claremont

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Geena Fong came up huge for the Lewis & Clark women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, making 17 saves in the Pioneers 0-0 double-overtime tie.

The tie moves the Pioneers to 1-1-1 on the season, while Claremont moves to 3-1-2 overall.

Fong, along with her backline, found themselves under constant pressure from the Athenas who outshot the Pioneers 29-4. Claremont found the back of the net once, but had the goal called back due to a player in offsides position.

The Pioneers best chance game in the final minute of regulation with freshman forward Annelise Coxeff firing a shot on goal just to have it bounce off the crossbar. Coxeff led the Pioneers in shots with two.

The Athenas kept the pressure on Fong throughout both overtimes, but the senior continued to come up big, preserving the draw for the Pios.

Lewis & Clark wraps up its California trip on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. against Whittier.
