PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers notched their first win of the season with a 3-0 defeat of the Beloit Buccaneers on Sunday at Griswold Stadium.
Erin Lutz scored a goal in the 37th minute, her first of the year, to put the Pios up 1-0 at halftime. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, McKenzie Wingard scored her second goal of the season to move Lewis & Clark up 2-0 in the 54th minute. With less than five minutes left, Anna Saucedo made a run of 90 yards to score her first goal on the left side of the net.
"It is incredible," said Wingard of her first two collegiate games. "Being a part of the team, I'm able to contribute something as a freshman. It has been incredible."
Hannah Osmundson (1-0-0) and Megan Sawyer combined for the shutout, playing 45 minutes apiece.
The Pioneers had control throughout the entire game. Lewis & Clark held longer possession of the ball and took four times as many shots as the Buccaneers. Lewis & Clark led 23-5 in shots and 7-2 in shots on goal. Caroline Hennes had a team-high eight shots with one on goal.
The entire second half of the game was played and closed out by the Pioneers underclassmen.
"This win is great, especially coming in with a huge freshmen class," said senior Tasha Addington-Ferris. "A win is a win, but we can't get too excited."
The Pioneers (1-0-1) host Corban on Thursday.
