McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's tennis team collected its ninth straight Northwest Conference win on Friday night, defeating the Linfield Wildcats for the second time this season. The Pioneers won 8-1.
In doubles action, Aurora Garrison and Gillian Lowe picked up an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Olivia Cornell and Claudia Lew were solid, winning 8-1. The final doubles point went to Linfield, with Izzy Borris and Lisa Osepyan falling 8-4.
The Pioneers then bounced back to sweep singles play. Lew rolled at No. 3 singles winning the first point 6-3, 6-0. Cornell bounced back after being down a set (1-6) to take the final two 6-3, 6-0. The Pioneers then clinched the win with strong set wins from the No. 4 and No. 5 singles before winning at No.1 as well.
Garrison played at the No. 1 spot, winning the opening set 7-5 before falling in the second. The freshman bounced back to capture a close 7-6 (7-5) win in the deciding set. Lowe collected a 6-1 win in the first set of her match at the No. 4 spot, before retiring her foe 2-0 in the second set. Osepyan battled at the No. 5 position earning a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Borris was solid at the No. 6, winning 6-3, 6-4.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. against George Fox at Tualatin Hills.
