PORTLAND, Ore. - Freshman Allison Schneider helped the Lewis & Clark women's tennis team earn two of its three points on Friday night in the Pioneers Northwest Conference contest against the Willamette Bearcats.
Schneider picked up the only Pioneer point in singles play, defeating Emily Guimont at the No. 5 spot. Schneider rolled past Guimont with ease winning 6-1, 6-0. Schneider then teamed up with Makena McCluskey at No. 2 doubles, taking down Guimont and Nebraska Lucas 8-3.
Lewis & Clark's other point came at No. 3 doubles with Olivia Sweetman and Paloma Vizcaino earning an 8-4 win over Alicia Sohn and Taylor Coggeshall. The Pioneers No. 1 doubles duo of Claudia Lew and Theresa Grigsby fell 8-1.
Lew lost 6-1, 6-4 as the Pioneers No. 1 singles player, while Sweetman fell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. McCluskey could not hold off Lucas at No. 3 singles, falling 7-5, 6-2. Grigsby lost in three sets to Sohn, dropping the opening set 6-2 before taking the second 7-5. Sohn bounced back to take the match with a 6-2 win in the third set. Vizcaino dropped her match to Coggeshall 7-5, 6-2.
Lewis & Clark hosts Puget Sound on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m.
