FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The outstanding year for Lewis & Clark women's tennis continued on Thursday, as the Northwest Conference office announced five Pioneers were chosen to the All-NWC teams, while sophomore Summer Garrison and head coach Patrick Dreves won the top overall honors.
The news follows Lewis & Clark clinching its first-ever NWC regular season championship last weekend.
Garrison was named NWC Player of the Year after competing in the No. 1 singles position all season long, amassing a 14-1 record and a No. 7 national ranking. The third-ranked player in the West Region, Garrison has gone 9-1 in her last 10 matches entering Saturday's four-team NWC Championship at the L&C Tennis Dome. The No. 1-seeded Pios open with No. 4 Whitworth.
Dreves, who was named ITA West Region Coach of the Year last season, was selected NWC Coach of the Year after his team finished with a 12-0 conference record. Overall, Lewis & Clark is 16-2 and ranked No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Dreves joined the program in 2011.
Two Pioneers were named to the All-NWC First-Team. In addition to Garrison, senior Aurora Garrison was chosen to the top squad. She played in the No. 2 position the majority of the season, entering the spring nationally-ranked at No. 47. She finished with an 8-8 record, ending the regular season on a three-game winning streak. In No. 1 matches, Aurora Garrison went 2-1. The Garrisons finished 12-4 as the No. 23 doubles pair in the nation.
Senior Claudia Lew and sophomores Christine Eliazo and Wiktoria Plawska earned All-NWC Second-Team spots. Lew spent the majority of the season playing in the fifth singles spot, going 6-3 to finish with an overall record of 13-3. Eliazo, who went 9-1 over her final 10 matches, built a 16-1 record, including a 9-1 mark in the fourth position. Lew and Eliazo joined together to win the doubles title at last fall's ITA Regionals and played the spring as the nation's No. 14 duo.
Plawska's selection is her second straight. The sophomore ended the year with a 10-2 mark at No. 3 in addition to winning a match at No. 2 and No. 4 this year. As a doubles partner with Kacey Incerpi, Plawska finished 11-4 this season, moving to No. 11 in the most recent West Region rankings.
As the Northwest Conference regular season champion, Lewis & Clark earned the right to host the NWC Championship on Saturday and Sunday. After the Pios semifinals match on Saturday, No. 2 Whitman plays No. 3 Linfield. The two semifinals winners play for an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships on Sunday at 10 a.m.
