Willamette Comes From Behind to Defeat Volleyball


PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team won its opening set against Willamette on Friday night in Northwest Conference action, but were unable to hold off the Bearcats the rest of the way. After winning the first set 25-23, the Pioneers fell 25-16, 25-22, 25-23. 

The loss drops the Pioneers to 6-10 on the season and 2-5 in NWC action. The Bearcats are also 2-5 in conference action following the win and 4-10 overall. 

Kataleya Milan led the Pioneers with a team-high 15 kills, while also collecting 18 digs and a block assist. Alicia Callejo-Black knocked down 11 kills and four blocks for the Pios, while Jennifer Dowdy had 10 kills and one block. Freshman Alexi Provost-Shean was the Pioneers leader at the net with five blocks, while also ending the night with a .455 hitting percentage. 

Madisyn Leenstra finished with a match-high 28 kills for the Bearcats to go with her four blocks. Carly Hargrave led all players defensively with a match-high nine blocks. 

The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. when they travel to take on Puget Sound.
