Women's Cross Country Earns Seventh Place at West Regionals; Men Finish 13th

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Lewis & Clark women's cross country team earned a seventh place finish at the West Regional meet Saturday morning. The men's team also had a strong showing finishing 13th.

Junior Illana Livstrom (21:33.00), earning the fastest times all season in the NWC, took home a second place finish. Junior Emily Thomas (21:44.8) earned fourth place. Livstrom's and Thomas' respective times are the two fastest Regional performances in L&C history.

Livstrom moves up to thrid on the L&C cross country all-time performance list at 6000m, passing Tamma Carleton. Thomas moves up to fifth on the L&C cross country all-time performance list at 6000m passing Hannah Palmer and Carla McHattie. Livstrom and Thomas were also named to the All-Region Team.  

Heather Spurling (23:37.5), Melissa Newton-Mora (23:38.8) and Corinne Innes (23:40.0) finished the scoring for L&C.

Sarah Echsner (23:53.2) finishing 68th and Susan Heinselman (24:41.3) finishing 94th also ran for the Pioneers.

Senior Caleb Sturgill (26:03.9) led the men's side for the L&C finishing 18th. Sturgill's time earned him the 7th fastest regional performance in L&C history.

John Roberts (27:09.8), Sam Smith (27:47.0), Drew LeDonne (28:00.3) and Jarrod Nxon (28:01.4) finished the scoring for the men's team.

Danel Shaver (28:12.6) finishing 91st and Brendy Hale (28:25.3) finishing 95th also ran for the Pioneers.

Livstrom and Thomas will compete at the NCAA DIII National Cross Country Championships next weekend, Saturday Nov. 19th in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
