FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Willamette's men and Lewis & Clark's women stand as the favorites to claim conference titles as the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships take place this Saturday at the Sunset Grove Golf Course, north of Forest Grove.

The Bearcat men will be looking to claim their first NWC title since 2009, having been beat by Whitworth each of the last two seasons.  The Pirates enter the meet with a youthful lineup that includes none of their top-five runners from the 2011 campaign.

Lewis & Clark is the favorite to win their third consecutive conference championship thanks to a season that has seen them perform well in large meets, including the Sundodger Invitational and Charles Bowles Invitational.  Willamette, who finished second to the Pioneers each of the last two seasons, will also be a top challenger as they aim for their first crown since 2008.

Individually, Pacific Lutheran's Alan DenAdel is the top returner in the men's race.  The Bow, Wash., native placed fourth in the 2011 championship.  The women's race is wide open as both the defending champion, Lewis & Clark's Illana Livstrom, and the runner-up, Whitworth's Joy Shufeldt, have missed much of the season with injuries.

The men's 8,000-meter race will begin at 11 a.m., with the women's 6,000-meter race following at noon.
