PORTLAND, Ore. - With a 12th place finish in the West Regionals senior Kaitlyn Throgmorton automatically qualifies for the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. The championships will take place in Hanover, Ind. on Nov. 23 with the women's race starting at 8 a.m. PST.
In last years Championships Throgmorton helped her team to a 20th place finish by placing 170th with a time of 23:15.2.
This year, Throgmorton has been the first Pioneer to cross the finish line in four out of the five 6K races Lewis & Clark has participated in. She finished the Sundoger Invitational on Sept. 14 in 22:40.72, good for 48th place. In the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 5. she placed 30th with a time of 23:40.17. Coming home to compete in the Lewis & Clark Invite on Oct. 19, she broke into the top 10 with a 6th place finish and a time of 22:31. While battling a late season injury, she finished 23rd in the Northwest Conference Championship on Nov. 2, with a time of 23:23.81 behind teammates Katie Keith and Melissa Newton-Mora.
This past weekend on Nov. 16 in the West Region Championships she came back strong and led her team once again by finishing in 12th place with a time of 22:50.59. Throgmorton is one of seven runners competing individually out of the West Region after qualifing on Nov. 16.
Head cross country coach Keith Woodard said, "Kaitlyn has worked hard to overcome her late season injury. She ran a terrific race to earn this trip to Nationals." He later added that he was "excited to watch her compete in the Championships."
