The vision for this section of the web site is to  make it both easy and rewarding for all friends of Lewis and Clark athletics to stay informed and connected while remembering the pride associated with being a Pioneer. We have included links to some of the storied history of Pioneer Athletics, such as Important Dates in Pioneer History, a complete list of our Lois Smithwick and Joe Huston award winners. There is also a section dedicated to the Lewis & Clark Sports Hall of Fame.

 

The PAC (Pioneer Athletics Club) is the the branch of Lewis & Clark Athletics responsible for maintaining relationships with former student-athletes, cultivating relationships with alumni, parents and friends of the College. Additionally, funds raised by the PAC will surely enhance the athletic experience for students. PAC membership is a clear indication to the College of the ongoing support that exists for the values associated with participation in varsity sports.
Where are they now? Keeping track of our Alumni is something we take pride in and would love to hear your story! Your personal account is one of the most powerful recruiting tools available to us and desired by prospective students and their families. In addition to giving prospective student-athletes a good representation of what life choices our alumni have made, this online community is a great way for you to stay in touch with past teammates. On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, the Pioneer Athletics Club sponsored the Student-Athlete Recognition Dessert, an annual year-end tradition where all of the senior student-athletes are recognized as well as the announcement of the annual award winners.
17th Annual Pioneer Athletics Club Golf Classic
Presented by Fortis Construction

The Pioneer Athletics Club is excited to announce that this year’s Annual Pioneer Athletics Club Golf Classic presented by Fortis Construction is in its’ 17th year and will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at a new venue - the scenic Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, the Pioneer Athletics Club sponsored the Student-Athlete Recognition Dessert, an annual year-end tradition where all of the senior student-athletes are recognized as well as the announcement of the annual award winners. The Pioneer Athletics Club reached its 2007-08 membership goal, getting its 500th member, Ralph Knudsen. Read more about this year's record-setting numbers. The Fred Wilson Field Endowment also reached it's $50,000 goal.
  On Monday, June 16, the 16th Annual Pioneer Athletics Club Golf Classic, presented by Fortis Construction, took place at the Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Ore. The team from Brand Athletics earned the first place trophies, winning the tournament on a tiebreaker in one of the closest tournaments in years.
   The annual PAC(K)Pamplin event was held on Saturday, January 25, 2008, as the men's and women's basketball teams hosted the Linfield Wildcats. This year, a special cocktail reception and dinner buffet was served in the Hall of Champions off the lobby of Pamplin Sports Center’s for all 07-08 PAC members. The event also featured a reunion of the 1949 Pioneer Men's Basketball Team.

The Lewis & Clark College Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1978 to pay permanent tribute to Lewis & Clark student-athletes who, through excellence of achievement in athletic competition, have brought a high level of honor and recognition to themselves and the College.
 

In 1972, the Lewis & Clark College Athletic Department introduced a new award to acknowledge the top athlete at the institution. The Joe Huston Athlete of the Year has been given to at least one Lewis & Clark student-athlete every year. In the late nineties, the criteria for the award changed slightly and has been given to the top male student-athlete every year since1998 with the top female athlete being named the Lois Smithwick Athlete of the Year .

 
Since 1998, the Lois Smithwick Award has been presented by the Lewis & Clark Athletics Department to recognize the most outstanding individual performance by a Pioneer female athlete. The top male athlete is honored with the Joe Huston Athlete of the Year award.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, just prior to the opening kickoff of the homecoming football game, President Hochstettler made the announcement that the playing surface at Griswold Stadium had been named "Fred Wilson Field" in honor of the Pioneers' former coach.
 

The Pioneer Athletics Club held the 15th Annual PAC Golf Classic, presented by Hoffman Construction Company, and Brand Athletics, Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Oregon Golf Club. The tournament returned to the Oregon Golf Club with a full field and some of the toughest competition in years.
