PORTLAND, Ore- The Lewis & Clark baseball team rounded out its three game series against Whitworth Monday at Huston Stadium losing 3-13. The Pioneers move to 9-17-1 overall with a 3-13 Northwest Conference record while the Pirates advance to 8-18 overall with a 5-10 conference record.

Aaron Landecker  (1-6) takes the loss on the mound for the Pioneers pitching four and one third innings allowing six runs on five hits, while walking five and striking out two. Blake Howell, Kyle Tibbett, and Corey Davis also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers. Spencer Ansett (2-2) takes the win for the Pirates pitching seven innings allowing one run on four hits, while walking two and striking out one. Jason Renner walks away with his fourth save of the season pitching one inning allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out two. Taylor Isadore also saw time on the mound for the Pirates.

The Pirates lit up the scoreboard first in the second inning when Matt Nelson hit a solo homer to right field, but the Pioneers came right back in the bottom of the third scoring a run of their own. Davis led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a walk taken by Jacob Burton, while Ben Beck loaded the bases with a bunt single. Matthew Cathcart then hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring the first Pioneer run.

The bats really came alive for the Pirates in the top of the fifth inning as they scored six runs on five singles and several stolen bases, while taking advantage of a few wild pitches. They scored three more runs in the top of the sixth using back-to-back doubles and two singles to get the job done.

The Pirates didn't let up and didn't allow the Pioneers to score while continuing to add runs to their total with two more in the eighth and one in the ninth taking the score to 13-1.

The Pioneers fought back a bit in the ninth scoring Davis reached on a fielders' choice and advanced to second on a Beck single to center field. With runners in scoring position, Christian Macdonald ripped a double to left center scoring both Davis and Beck but that would be it for the Pioneers who chalk up a loss 3-13. Beck and Cathcart led the Pioneers with two hits each.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday April 8 at the Hillsboro Hops Ballpark against Corban for a non-conference double-header beginning at 2:30 p.m.
