Baseball Wins Final Game in Three Game Series

PORTLAND, Ore- The Lewis & Clark baseball team picked up a win today on Corey Davis' senior day against Pacific Lutheran in the final game of the three game series Saturday 8-4. The  Pioneers move to 10-25-1 overall and 4-17 in Northwest Conference play while the Lutes move to 21-14 overall with a 12-8 conference record.

Ryan Strombom (2-5) takes the win for the Pioneers on the mound pitching seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out two. Ben Beck picked up the save on the mound for the first time this season, while Stein Retzlaff and Aaron Landecker also saw time on the mound. Collin Nilson (1-2) picked up the loss for the Lutes only pitching one and two third innings allowing four runs on three hits, while walking three and striking out two. Kort Skoda and Cory Nelson also saw time on the mound for the Lutes. 

The Pioneers had a big first inning picking up four runs on three hits and using one error to their advantage. Eric Hyun drew a walk, and advanced to second on a Bradley Lezak single to left center. Tommy Massari then reached on a fielders' choice advancing both Hyun and Lezak a base. An error created by the third baseman scored Hyun and advanced Lezak to third. With a  Hayden Higger single through the right side, Lezak scored and Massari advanced to third. The bases became loaded when Even Gray drew a walk for Conner Sick who drilled a single up the  middle to score to runs and taking the Pioneer lead 4-0. 

The Lutes came back in the top of the third scoring three runs on four hits.

Beck began the fourth inning with a double to center field and scored on a Hyun single down the right field line. Davis singled, while both he and Hyun stole bases and scored on a Higger single to right.  

Collin Nilson picked up the only other run for the Lutes with a solo homer to left field in the eighth.

The Pioneers weren't done and scored one more run on two hits and an error in the eighth inning. Hyun singled to right center, advanced to second on a Lezak single, and moved to third on a Massari fielders' choice. A quick error by the shortstop scored Hyun from third for the final run of the game and the Pioneers take the win 8-4. 

The Pioneers play in their final three game series starting April 26 at Linfield when they play a double-header beginning at noon.
