FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- With a .667 average in a series win over George Fox last weekend, senior infielder Tommy Massari was selected Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Massari went 6 for 9 from the plate with five RBI and a double while also walking four times to help Lewis & Clark to its first series victory over the Bruins since at least 1999. He started all three games at third base.
Through six games this season, Massari is hitting .526, which leads the Northwest Conference, a category in which his teammate Matt Donovan currently ranks third with a .500 average.
"Our offense led the way this weekend," said head coach Tom Flynn after Sunday's doubleheader sweep at George Fox's home field, the Morse Athletic Fields, in Newberg, Ore. Rain moved the series from Portland after Saturday's first game.
The Pios totaled 29 runs and 43 hits over the three-game series.
Now at 2-1 in the NWC standings, which puts Lewis & Clark in a four-way tie for first place, the Pios will travel to Pacific Lutheran for a three-game series starting Saturday.
