FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Sean Shepherd's solo home run in the fourth inning was the only run for the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Pacific Boxers at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
Pacific scored two runs in both the fourth and seventh before adding four more in the eighth to complete a series sweep of the Pios.
Shepherd hit his fifth home run of the season, and his third in the last five games, to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. His five homers match his career high from last season.
Andrew Yarak (1-5) started the game and pitched 6 2/3 innings with a new career-high eight strikeouts in the loss. The sophomore's previous career high was seven, which he totaled once this year and once last season. Max Haddad and Austin Conniff finished the game, with Conniff keeping the Boxers (11-15, 7-11 NWC) off the scoreboard.
Lewis & Clark (5-21, 3-11 NWC) was limited to four hits by Sam Lawrence, who pitched to a complete-game, one-hit result for his fourth win this season.
Lewis & Clark returns home to the Huston Sports Complex to host Whitworth on Friday following a pair of games in Tacoma, Wash. on Tuesday.
