TACOMA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers earned a 7-0 shutout of the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in their second game of a doubleheader. A big fourth inning put the Pioneers up 6-0 and the Lutes were never able to recover earning only six hits for the game.
Dominic Monozon pitched all nine innings for the Pioneers to earn his first win of the season. Monozon struck out seven in 32 batters faced. Cooper Larson had his first home run of the season off of a long shot down the left field line to give the Pioneers their first run of the game.
With one run on the board in the top of the fourth inning, the Pioneers got a two-out rally going with a single from Jack Thomson to right field. Zack Kon advanced to first on a walk followed by a single from Justin Katona to right field to score Thomson. Next up at the plate, Joey Oda struck out swinging at a wild pitch but advanced to first when the catcher was unable to control the ball. Jacob Serafini then stepped up to the plate and launched a line drive to center field. Katona and Kon scored while Oda was able to score off of a throwing error by center field.

- Larson had his first home run of the season and third of his career

The Lewis & Clark Pioneers dropped their first game of the series against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes 11-3. The Pioneers struggled to get the ball in play earning only five hits to the Lutes 17. However, despite a low number of hits when the Pioneers did make contact it was solid. Matt Donovan had his second home run of the season while Zack Kon totaled two doubles and Jacob Serafini added another.
Jordan Gonzalez started the game for the Pioneers on the mound allowing 10 hits and striking out four batters in 3.2 innings pitched. Justin Armbruester recorded the win for the Lutes pitching seven innings totaling four hits and seven strikeouts.
Facing two runners in scoring position and one out on the board in the bottom of the fourth the Pioneers threw a wild pitch allowing one runner to score and the other to advance to third giving the Lutes a 2-0 lead. The next batter up for the Lutes singled to center field allowing Pacific Lutheran's Michael Cesar to score. The next batter for the Lutes launched a long ball over left field's head to give the Lutes a 4-0 lead. The hot bats continued for the Lutes in the fourth quarter as they earned four more hits to take an 8-0 lead into the top of the fifth. A homer by Donovon in the top of the sixth put two runs up on the board for the Pioneers but it would not be enough.

- Cole Petters and Justin Katona each recorded a stolen base
The Pioneers return to Huston to take on Puget Sound next weekend, Mar. 23-34 with a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday.
