ORANGE, Calif.-- In the final game of the 2017 year the Pioneers lost to Chapman 80-73. Both teams were equal on the stat book shooting almost the same amount of shots while Chapman had more opportunities at the free-throw line.
It was a productive first half as both teams were able to drop 40 or more points while shooting above 50% in field-goals. The Pioneers jumped out to an eight point lead early on thanks to Andrew Vickers multiple layups. Chapman was able to crawl back and take the lead at the four minute mark from a 3-pointer by Reed Nakakihara. Vickers and Nico Bricker were able to drop 11 points each leaving the Pios down 45-40 going into the second half.
In the second half, Lewis & Clark was unable to retake the lead while staying within a single digit deficit. The Pios had six more points in the paint but had one less made field-goal and five less made free-throws.
Vickers was the leading scorer for the Pioneers tonight dropping 18 points along with five rebounds while Bricker was the leader in rebounds with nine and 15 points.
The Pioneers will play their first game of 2018 on January 5 at Whitworth. Tip off will begin at 8 p.m.
