HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Following his second straight season of leading the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in scoring, sophomore Andrew Vickers was selected to an All-Northwest Conference team for the second consecutive year, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Vickers was selected All-NWC Second Team after earning NWC Freshman of the Year and All-NWC Honorable Mention honors last season. He ended the season averaging 15 points per game to finish among the top 10 scorers in the NWC. At 82 percent, Vickers ranked in the top 10 in free-throw shooting while making 33 percent from 3-point range to finish among the conference's top 25. His per-game average for rebounds also went up from 4.6 last season to 5.4 this year.
In the final half of the season, Vickers came through with four 20-plus scoring games including a career-high 29-point effort on Feb. 3 against then-No. 5 Whitworth. The performance followed his 28 points in the first meeting against Whitworth in Spokane, Wash. on Feb. 5 in a 98-91 defeat to the Pirates. In four games against Whitworth and top-ranked Whitman this season, Lewis & Clark maintained a single-digit margin in all but one.
Vickers' selection gives Lewis & Clark a choice on the All-NWC First or Second Team every season but one since 2007-08.
Last season, Vickers was top 20 in points per game, field-goal percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio. He also finished just outside the top 20 in rebounds per game, averaging 4.6 per contest to rank 21st.
The Pioneers finished with an 8-17 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the Northwest Conference. The sophomore led the team in minutes per game (34.1), and of the student-athletes who played the most minutes this season, seven were underclassmen or in their first year competing for the Pios.
