HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Senior Kyle Owens dropped a career-high 37 points last week to help the Pioneers defeat visiting D'Youville and earn him NWC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Owens went 10 for 13 from beyond the arc and was perfect from the free-throw line going seven for seven. Owens 10 three-pointers bested his previous career-high by three and his 37 points bested his previous high by 10 which he set earlier this season against Corban. In addition to a stellar shooting night, Owens grabbed two steals and dished out an assist. Earlier in the week, Owens dropped 10 points on four of 12 shooting to help the Pioneers defeat Portland Bible.
Owens currently leads the team in points per game with 16.6 and in three-point percentage with 46.3, which puts him in the top-15 in the NWC. Last year Owens finished fifth in the NWC in three-point percentage and had 15 games with double-digit scoring.
The Pioneers take on visiting UC-Santa Cruz on Wednesday before going on the road to play Caltech and Cal Lutheran on Friday and Saturday. After Christmas break the Pioneers return to Pamplin to resume conference play against Whitworth on Jan. 4 and Whitman on Jan. 5.
