PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers racked up another loss as they hit the road for back-to-back games this weekend, losing 62-60 to the Caltech Beavers. The Pioneers fought their way back from a 14 point gap in the second half but couldn't beat the clock to pull ahead.
The Pioneers established an early lead in the first half, with Kody Kennedy hitting a three point jumper to put the Pioneers on the scoreboard. The Pios were leading by 10 points with 8:55 to go, but traded the lead back and forth in the last five minutes of the half and headed into halftime up by two.
Caltech found their momentum in the second half, taking the lead at 16:35 and never relinquishing it. The Pioneers went cold for a seven minute span after losing the lead, with four turnovers and 10 missed shots. Jalen Lowery broke the dry spell with a layup, and Mak Hutson entered the game to lead the offense back from a 14 point deficit.
The Pioneers and the Beavers played a very close game, with the Pioneers hitting 23 of their 55 field goal attempts to the Beavers' 22 for 55. The Pioneers also had 33 rebounds and 12 assists to the Beavers' 34 rebounds and 10 assists. The Pios made eight of their 15 three pointers while the Beavers made eight of their 28 three-point shots.
Kody Kennedy and Dealon Floyd led the offensive efforts in the first half, with a combined 17 points and two assists. Kennedy scored 13 points for the Pioneers. Mak Hutson led the Pioneers in scoring with 14 points and three assists, while Zeke Crawford led the team with 10 rebounds, five assists, one steal and two blocks.
- Kyle Owens scored eight points and had two steals
- Adrian Romero played in his second game of the season and put three points on the board for the Pios
- Nick Lombardi went one for three to score three points
- Jalen Lowery had two steals and two rebounds
- Matt Brown put two points on the board and had one assist
