Andrews retires after 11 seasons as collegiate golf coach

PALATINE HILL -- Lewis & Clark men's and women's golf coach Dave Andrews has decided to retire after 11 years as a collegiate golf coach, six of which came at Lewis & Clark.

Since joining the staff in 2011, Andrews has elevated both golf programs, including leading the women's team to frequent top-25 appearances in the Golfstat NCAA Division III Relative Rankings. Last spring, the women's team finished second at the Northwest Conference Championships.

"I have immensely enjoyed my time coaching student-athletes at Lewis & Clark," said Andrews. "The students kept me young, and I have tremendous fondness and respect for the entire faculty and staff."

"We have truly enjoyed having Coach Andrews on our staff," said Director of Physical Education and Athletics Shana Levine, who says the search for a new head coach has started. "He had a great impact on our program, our student-athletes and our staff. He will be truly missed."

Andrews was named the first full-time golf coach at Lewis & Clark in 2011 and has made a mark with his student-athletes in Lewis & Clark's goal of Building ChamPIOns. Last season, the women's golf team won two team championships and had two student-athletes, Claire Burke and Annie McCutchan, earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week awards. At the end of the NWC Championships, four Lewis & Clark golfers were selected to the All-NWC men's and women's teams, the second-straight year of multiple selections for the Pioneers.

Three golfers made the Spring 2017 Dean's List, including men's golf senior Drew Groshong, who won his second straight Dell Smith Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the 2017 ELCYS in April. Groshong was also an individual medalist at the 2013 NWC Fall Classic during Andrews' tenure.

One of Andrews' senior student-athletes, Arielle Valdez, was selected as the senior speaker at the Lewis & Clark College 144th Annual Commencement Ceremony last May.

In addition to coaching the Pioneers, Andrews' career includes time as the head golf professional at two country clubs and coaching at Carroll University in Wisconsin.
