SALEM, Ore. -- A 3 to 2 loss to Victoria ended the Lewis & Clark Pioneers' bid for the Capitol City Match Play championship on Sunday at Creekside Golf Club. In the men's third-place match, the Pios lost to Northwest Christian, 5-0.
The Pioneers lost to Northwest Christian, 5 to 0, in the third-place match of the tournament.
Corban won the tournament beating Warner Pacific, 5 to 0.
Kade McCoy had the Pioneers' only individual win over the weekend.
The teams will compete at the Spring Fling in Walla Walla, Wash. on Mar. 10-11.
Competing for the tournament crown for the second straight year, the Pioneers were unable to follow-up an undefeated Saturday with a win on Sunday, losing by one match in the championship.
Playing a best-of-five series with Victoria, Lewis & Clark's Jane Almeida and Mady Rhodenbaugh won their match-play, 18-hole pairings, but the Pios couldn't get the clinching match elsewhere. Annika Clunk was 1-down with two holes to play in her pairing before losing the 17th hole for a 2 and 1 loss. Almeida won 3 and 2 to go undefeated for the weekend.
Corban defeated Northwest Christian for third place.
