TUCSON, Ariz. - The Lewis & Clark softball team fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the teams spring break trip to Arizona.
vs. Wisc.-La Crosse
Wisconsin-La Crosse, who improve to 13-6 on the season, plated both of their runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Pioneers cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the inning on a Hannah Dal Pra single. The junior second baseman hit the ball down the left field line, knocking in Haley Robinson.
The Pioneers had a chance to take control of the game in the sixth inning, but ended the inning with three stranded base runners.
Amanda Rabith ended the contest 2-of-3 from the plate, while Ateisha Norton was 2-of4. Dal Pra picked up her only hit of the contest on her RBI single. Madison Hollenbeck pitched a complete game for the Pios, striking out three and walking one in the loss.
vs. #19 Central (Iowa)
The Pioneers returned to the field later in the day for a contest against #19 Central (Iowa) with the Dutch collecting a 10-3 victory.
The Pioneer runs came in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of a three-run homerun by Jenai Rojo. The homerun handed the Pioneers their first lead of the game, making it a 3-1 contest.
The Pioneers held onto the lead until the start of the fourth inning when the Dutch took a 5-3 lead and never looked back.
Kalin Rooney pitched a complete game for the Pios, striking out two batters and walking one.
The Pioneers take to the field for their final game in Arizona on Sunday, March 22 against Pacific Lutheran.
