PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Lewis & Clark softball team concluded its Arizona trip on Tuesday afternoon with a double-header against Arizona Christian. The Firestorm won the opening game 5-0, while the Pioneers came back to win the final game 10-6.
Haley Robinson paced the Pioneer offense with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate, while Amanda Rabith went 1-for-2. Abby Beasley of ACU ended the game with a 3-for-3 performance, scoring two runs and walking once.
Robinson's first hit of the game came in the opening inning with a lead-off single but the rest of the Pioneer offense could not overcome solid pitching by ACU.
Arizona Christian found a way to score their first run of the game in the second inning before brining in three more over the next two innings. The Firestorm scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Jill Pinder picked up the loss for Lewis & Clark after three innings of work. Jackie Aguilar earned the complete game win for ACU, improving to 10-5 on the season.
Robinson continued her solid performance into the second game, ending the final contest 2-of-5 from the place, as did Rabith. Hannah Dal Pra finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate, scoring three of the Pios 10 runs. Freshman Ateisha Norton finished the game a perfect 3-for-3, while Madison Hollenbeck went 2-for-3.
Meaghen Nelson finished 3-for-4 for Arizona Christian, while Jasmine Aguilar and Alyssa Vanderdrink were each 2-for-4.
Hallie Knife picked up her first win of the season after a 3.2 inning performance that saw three strikeouts. Ashlynn Preciado earned the loss for the Firestorm.
Lewis & Clark scored their first runs of the day in the top of the second inning with the help of an error by the Firestrom. On what should have been the final out of the inning, the ACU shortstop mishandled a Kelsey Buck slap that allowed both Hollenbeck and Dal Pra to score.
The Pioneers increased their lead to 5-0 in the next inning, starting with a two-run homerun by Jenai Rojo. The homerun is Rojo's fourth of the season. Lindsay Yearman knocked in the final run of the inning with an RBI single that allowed Dal Pra to come home.
ACU got on the board in the bottom half of the third, cutting the Pioneer lead to 5-2 thanks to a two RBI single by Eden Sheldon. After sitting the Pioneers down in order in the fourth, the Firestorm took the lead in their half of the inning with four runs on four hits and a Pio error.
Now trailing 6-5, the Pioneers began to chip away at the deficit, starting with another RBI by Yearman that scored Dal Pra in the fifth. A wild pitch in the sixth allowed Robinson to score, making it a 7-6 contest.
Lewis & Clark brought in its final runs of the contest in the seventh. The scoring began with an Ashley Bolick single to left field that knocked in Norton and Kylee Kennel. The inning began with a single by Hollenbeck, who was then replaced on base by Kennel. Norton followed Hollenbeck with a single, before Yearman laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both players into scoring position. After the two runs came in, Bolick moved to second thanks to a throwing error by the left fielder. Robinson followed Bolick with a single. A Firestorm error on a Tiana Rosario hit allowed Bolick to come in to score.
The Pioneers return to the field on Saturday, March 28 for a Northwest Conference double-header at Pacific Lutheran.
