PORTLAND, Ore. -- Opening weekend is in the books for the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, who hosted Northwest Christian University in their second doubleheader of the weekend. In a repeat performance of the previous day, the Pioneers lost the first of the series but came back to win the second game by a significant margin. The Pioneers topped the Beacons 9-2 in a game where they racked up runs in every inning.
Lewis & Clark was the first team to get runs on the board, with Olivia Brackin and Frankie Warden both scoring separately on wild pitches in the first inning. Brackin, who had three hits for three RBI's in four at-bats, then came back in the second with a home run to bring in Emily Drevdahl and put the Pios up 4-0. The Beacons got themselves on the board in the third with a home run from M. Jenkins which brought in two and the Pios answered with another run scored by Hannah Urbach off a single from Drevdhal. The Pioneers kept the Beacons from scoring for the rest of the game, while growing their lead by another four runs over three innings.
Savannah Dickson pitched all seven innings of the game, allowing two runs off six hits with two strike outs and two walks. This is her second victory of the weekend.
Olivia Brackin lead the team in hits and RBI's with three each. Hannah Urbach with two each while Emily Drevdahl and Ana Zimmerman had one apiece. Sydney Cross had the lone double of the day with one hit in three at-bats.
The Pioneers struggled to find a rhythm in game one against Northwest Christian University, losing the first game of their doubleheader 5-2. The Pios were only down by one run in the third inning, but a three run rally in the top of the sixth sealed the win for the Beacons.
Scoreless until the fourth inning, the Pios finally got Emily Drevdahl home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield from Olivia Brackin. Frankie Warden had two hits in the game while Holly Hale, Olivia Brackin, Ana Zimmerman, Lily Moffit, and Emily Drehvdal each had one apiece. Drevdahl and Zimmerman both racked up a double, while Brackin and Zimmerman had an RBI each.
The Pioneers scored their first run in the fourth inning, getting Emily Drevdahl home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield from Olivia Brackin. Brackin then scored the Pios second run of the day on a double by Ana Zimmerman who got caught stealing third.
