    The Whitworth men and women's swimming teams earned the 2011 Northwest Conference Swimming Championships on Sunday evening in Portland. The Pirate men finished with 923.5 points to collect their ninth conference championship, while the women scored 817 points en route to their second consecutive title.

    In the first meet of the year the Lewis & Clark men's and women's swim teams competed in the Northwest Conference Sprint Pentathlon hosted by Willamette in Salem, Ore. The women's side concluded the meet in second place with a total of 109 points. The Pioneer men finished the meet in sixth place with 31 points.

    Lewis & Clark head men’s and women’s swim coach Chris Fantz has announced his 2010-2011 recruiting class, which includes nine women and four men. On the women’s side the recruits include: Taylor Coiner, Ashley Ermann, Kayla Ernewein, Eva Greenberg, Heather Markham, Alexa Morris, Lesley Pfeiffer, Alli Rotunno and Katy Yeh. The men have added: Matt Gallagher, Chris Moon, Brian Penney and JohnMark Uwagbae.

    This season Cat Menkel-Lawrence, a junior at Lewis & Clark who was born and raised in Oregon, was one of the swimming sensations for the Pioneers. At L&C she is double majoring in math and theater, with a focus in performance. For the future she can see a slew paths to take, including teaching, swimming and acting.
