PALATINE HILL -- 15 incoming student-athletes will seek to continue the momentum built by two NCAA Championships qualifiers off last year's team. On Tuesday, Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Keith Woodard announced the incoming class for the 2017 season of Lewis & Clark track and field.

Graduated seniors Kodie Artner and Deion Mock both qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring. Artner, who won both the 110- and 400-meter hurdles at the Northwest Conference Championships, finished with the nation's ninth-best mark entering nationals. Mock set the Lewis & Clark school record for the pole vault after clearing 16 feet, 1.75 inches (4.92 meters) at the Whitworth Last Chance Meet in May and placed 11th at the NCAAs.

"I am excited to welcome our new additions to the track program," said Woodard. "While the numbers are lower, the first-years add quality, depth and competitiveness to the team.

"From the football team is Dalton Milburn, who should be competitive right away in the discus and the shot, and Justice Jarrett adds depth in the hurdles. The distance events get a big boost from the six cross country newcomers.

"On the women's team, Nicole Godbout will be a factor in the conference sprints and relays. Willa Moen will be competitive in the high jump, and Syrah Starnes fills a gap in the javelin. The distance events will benefit from the four newcomers from the cross country team."
