Off a pair of top-two finishes, Bucknovitz wins conference award

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A pair of top-two finishes at last weekend's Luau Invitational earned Lewis & Clark senior Sarah Bucknovitz Northwest Conference Field Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Bucknovitz won the women's hammer and placed second in the discus to add two more top-five finishes this season. She now has a total of five. Bucknovitz won the hammer with a throw of 146 feet, 2 inches (44.55m) to go with a mark of 127 feet, 1 inch (38.75m) in the discus.

While not her best results of the season, the finishes are her highest since March's Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker at Linfield, where she placed second in the hammer.

Through last weekend, Bucknovitz ranks in the Northwest Conference's top five in both events. She is currently second in the hammer following a mark of 147 feet, 6 inches (44.95m) at the L&C Spring Break Open last month. In the discus, Bucknovitz has the fifth-best mark of 127 feet, 7 inches (38.90m) set at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational on Apr. 1. She has qualified for the NWC Championships in both events, where last year, she placed second in the hammer and sixth in the discus.

Lewis & Clark has one more event, the L&C Invite at Eldon Fix Track this Saturday, before the NWC Championships, which will be at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. on Apr. 22-23.
