SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers competed at the Indoor Preview hosted by the University of Washington on Sunday at Dempsey Indoor.
Sarah Howard claimed first in her heat of the 60 meters, finishing in 8.71 and placing 63rd of 73 entrants. Freshman Emily Tash was also top two, placing second in her heat and 50th of 57 with a time of 28.34 in the 200 meters. Morgan Taylor raced to a fifth-place finish in her heat with a time of 10.60 in the 60-meter hurdles.
On the field side, Rachelle Locey leaped to a fifth-place finish in her heat of the long jump at 15 feet, 6 inches and 27th of 43 in the field. In the triple jump, she set a mark of 31 feet, 9.5 inches to take ninth in her heat and 18th of 25 jumpers. Ty Marshall was 11th in the event at 30 feet, 7.5 inches to finish 20th overall, while Chrislyn DeMattos placed one spot back at 29 feet, 4.5 inches. DeMattos also competed in multiple events, getting over the bar in the high jump at 4 feet, 7 inches to finish 41 of 47 and 21st in her heat. In the pole vault, Tatyana Benko set a mark of 9 feet, 1.75 inches and was 37th of 44 in the field.
"Overall a good opener for those competing," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field, Keith Woodard. "They competed well and things look good for the upcoming outdoor season."
On the men's side, Nabil Khan was fifth in his heat and 31st overall in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.11. Isam Tahir ran the 60 meters in 7.24 for a third-place result in his heat and 23rd of 67. Deriontae Green was sixth in his heat and 45 of 67 in the same race with a time of 7.39. Sam Mason clocked in at 7.86 and was 62nd of 67. Green and Tahir later ran the 200 meters with Green getting second in his heat at 23.13 and Tahir placing third at 23.74. They were 26th and 40th in the 58-runner field, respectively.
Logan Kyle was 29th of 43 and 15th in his heat of the pole vault with a result of 13 feet, 0.75 inches.
Lewis & Clark competes next at the Ed Boitano Invitational on Mar. 3.
