FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Sophomore Morgan Taylor made personal-best marks in the 800 meters and shot put to highlight her heptathlon at Monday and Tuesday's Boxer Combined Event at Hanson Stadium.
Competing in her second year of the heptathlon, Taylor shaved four-tenths of a second off her all-time best time in the 800 meters with a sixth-place finish. She finished in 2:30.20 to beat her prior fastest time of 2:30.64 at last year's Northwest Conference Championships.
Taylor really shined in the shot put by throwing nearly five feet farther than her conference-championships effort from last year. Her mark of 28 feet, 0.75 inches (8.55m) placed her 10th and exceed her previous best throw of 23 feet, 10.75 inches (7.28m).
In the javelin, Taylor also had a top-10 mark with a throw of 90 feet, 1 inch (27.46m), the third best of her career. Taylor finished the event in 11th place with 2,976 points.
