Tash and Haro-Ruiz set new PR’s as Pios take on Willamette Invitational in Salem

SALEM, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers competed at the Willamette Invitational Saturday afternoon, bringing a small squad to Salem to compete. Emily Tash had one of the strongest performances of the day for the women with a PR in the 100 meter event, while Ayla Kumano represented in the 400 meter hurdles. Syrah Starnes was set to compete in the hammer throw before the event was cancelled because of weather.

On the men's side, Bryce Johnson ran the 400 meter event, placing first in his flight and fifth overall. He was one second off his PR for the event. Miguel Haro Ruiz ran the 800 meter event, setting a new PR, while Matthew White and Sean Richardson both competed in the men's 5000 meter race. Benji Bromberg competed in the 110 meter hurdles while Andrew Werst competed in the discus and shotput.

Key Moments

Emily Tash had a big race in the women's 100 meter event, setting a new PR by .18 seconds and placing first in her flight. Tash also competed in the women's 200 meter event, placing 18 overall after finishing second in her flight.

Miguel Haro-Ruiz set a new PR in the 800 meter event, while Matthew White had a strong performance in the 5000 meter event, beating the target qualifying time by 30 seconds. He and Sean Richardson competed together, with White finding and building speed through the last two laps to really improve his time. Richardson was five seconds off his PR from the LC Invitational last weekend.
