Two first-place finishes earns Verba-Hamilton NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Sophomore Aidan Verba-Hamilton posted first-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and 4x400 meter relay at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational to earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.

Verba-Hamilton won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.29, about a half-second slower than his personal best time of 22.81. This is Verba-Hamilton's best finish in this event. His previous best was a third-place finish at the Pacific Preview.

Also competing in the 100-meter dash, Verba-Hamilton posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 11.58, .59 seconds out of first place. Verba-Hamilton was the top finisher for the Pioneers in this event. Verba-Hamilton was also a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams this weekend. He helped the Pioneers to a second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 42.74 and a first-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:30.28. This is the Pioneers season-best time in the 4x400 meter relay and their first win in this event this season.

In addition to track & field, Verba-Hamilton also competes for football. This last fall he was named a NWC Honorable Mention totaling 13 kick returns for 302 yards and nine receptions for 102 yards and three touchdowns.

The Pioneers compete next weekend at the Pacific Luau Invitational on Apr. 13 followed by the NWC Championships for the Heptathlon and Decathlon on Apr. 15-16. They will return to Griswold Stadium on Apr. 20 for the Lewis & Clark Invite.
