TACOMA, Wash. - Freshmen Miyah Leith and Lauren Wood each netted a team-high 13 points as the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team put up a good fight at #22 Puget Sound. The Loggers pulled out a seven point, 52-45, Northwest Conference win.
The moves the Pioneers to 6-9 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Loggers improve to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in the NWC.
Leith ended her night 6-of-10 from the floor, including a perfect 1-for-1 from three-point range. The guard also collected a team-high eight rebounds for the Pioneers, while picking up two assists and a steal. Wood picked up her 13 points with 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, while draining her lone free-throw. The forward picked up five boards, an assist, block and a steal for L&C. Freshman Cianna Ochoco and sophomore Ayisat Afolabi each ended with six points for L&C, while Kaitlin Mathewson had five.
Amanda Forshay led all players with 15 points in the Logger victory, while Emily Sheldon had nine and both Alex Noren and Katy Ainslie finished with eight.
Unfortunately the Pioneers only lead of the game came in the first minute of the game with a Wood jumper, putting L&C in front 2-0. Puget Sound responded just second later with an 11-0 run that stretched over a three minute span. The Pioneers pulled within five points, 15-10, with 10:48 left in the half with a layup by Afolabi. The Loggers pushed their lead to 10 points a few minutes later. The Pios rallied to cut the deficit in half, making it 23-18 at the intermission.
Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at Linfield.
