Women's Basketball Ends Season with 57-49 Loss

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's basketball team ended the 2014-15 season on Saturday night with a 57-49 loss to the Linfield Wildcats.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 8-17 overall and 5-11 in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers finish the regular season tied for sixth place with Pacific. The Wildcats finish 12-13 overall and 6-10 in the NWC, good enough for fifth place. 

Sophomore Ayisat Afolabi ended with the games only double-double, scoring 11 points and collecting a game-high 14 rebounds. Miyah Leith led all players with a game-high 15 points, while pulling down six boards. Senior Casey Zinn finished the night with seven points and nine rebounds. Afolabi, Zinn and Kaitlin Mathewson each finished with one block and one steal.

Paige Graham ended the game with a team-high 14 points for Linfield, while Quincey Gibson ended the night with 11 points. 

Neither team had a clear advantage in the first half with both sides constantly trading possession of the lead. Linfield took the largest lead of the half with 1:10 remaining when Gibson made it a 27-22 game. 

The second half proved to be a different story with the Wildcats pushing the pace, starting with a 10-1 run. Afolabi cut the Pioneer deficit to just three points, 38-35, with 11:42 to go. Linfield had an answer though surging back to a comfortable eight-point advantage. The Pioneers earned a couple points back moments later, but the Wildcats quickly ran ahead once again.
