FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Ayisat Afolabi is currently ranked first in rebounds per game (9.4) in the Northwest Conference and is also in the top five in scoring (14.6) and field goal percentage (54.2). Her stellar performance has earned her NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Monday.
The senior for the Pioneers picked up her fourth double-double of the season last week, driving the Pioneers to their seventh win of the season after being projected last in the NWC.
She scored 22 points and brought down 11 rebounds in a 73-56 road win over Warner Pacific on Dec. 20, along with three blocked shots, two steals and an assist. She shot 53 percent (8 of 15) from the field, including 2 for 3 on threes and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Her 22 points were one point shy of her 23-point game against Linfield on Dec. 9, a season-high.
Afolabi's stunning start to the season has elevated the Pioneers to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in NWC play
