FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers finally went ahead by double digits in the fourth quarter to win 78-66 over the Pacific Boxers on Friday night at Stoller Center.
The Pioneers had four players in double figures, led by Ayisat Afolabi's 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite leading for the majority of the third quarter, Lewis & Clark couldn't move past a single-digit lead until Sarah Anderson hit a 3-pointer with 4:45 remaining to put the Pios up 67-55. Anderson finished 4 of 6 on 3-pointers, as the Pioneers were a season-best 62 percent from 3-point range.
"It's huge. We really needed to bounce back tonight and get the win," said Anderson. "We definitely had a lot to work on after those losses to top-25 teams."
The Pioneers were coming off two defeats at George Fox and Puget Sound, which are both ranked in the D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll. Friday's win moves Lewis & Clark into sole possession of fourth place in the Northwest Conference. The Pios are one game ahead of Willamette, who plays Lewis & Clark in Portland on Saturday, in the standings.
Miyah Leith went 4 of 4 from 3-point range and had 15 points. Deja Nicholas, whose steal-and-score to end the first half brought the Pios to within one at the break, had 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting overall. Lauren Wood had eight points and eight rebounds.
"We really look to push the tempo," said Anderson. "It always helps when your shots are going in. Miyah, Lauren and I shot pretty well tonight. That gives you momentum on defense."
Pacific shot under 40 percent from the field and was led by Sarah Curl's 30 points.
Lewis & Clark used a 10-2 run in the early second quarter to close down a seven-point first-quarter lead by Pacific. Afolabi led the way with 12 of her 14 first-half points in the second to go with four rebounds.
After six-straight road games, Lewis & Clark's game against Willamette on Saturday begins at 4 p.m.
