PASADENA, Calif. -- After leading near the end of regulation and the first overtime, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers held on in the second extra period for a 64-63 victory over the Caltech Beavers on Saturday at the Braun Athletic Center.
Alyx Crager scored a layup with 2:15 remaining in regulation to give the Pios a three-point lead before Grace Peng made a 3-pointer to even Caltech at 53-53 with 1:44 remaining. Neither team scored again before overtime.
In the first OT, Sara Hogman made a pair of free throws to give Lewis & Clark a 59-57 lead with six seconds to go, but Madeline Schemel scored out of the Caltech timeout to force another five minutes of play.
Hogman made a three in the first minute of double overtime and Lauren Wood added two free throws with just under three minutes remaining to boost the Pioneers to a five-point lead, 64-59. Kali Drango scored with 37 seconds remaining to bring the Beavers within one before the Pioneers kept Caltech (0-3) scoreless the rest of the game.
Miyah Leith led the Pioneers with 16 points followed by Crager's 13. Wood had eight points and 14 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.
Lewis & Clark (4-2) is idle until the Northwest Conference opener at Willamette on Dec. 1.
