PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers started their first home game of the season with a win against the Evergreen St. Geoducks. The Pioneers out-rebounded the Geoducks while being more efficient from both the free-throw and three-point line. The Pioneers finished the Geoducks after pulling away in the end of the fourth quarter ending the game, 78-69.
Senior Alyx Crager lead the Pioneers with 19 points with fellow senior Sara Hogman adding an additional 10 points. The freshman class as a whole contributed 27 points with Jessica Cerne leading the class with 12 points. Janessa Willie ran the offense with a total of six assists.
The Pioneers struggled in the beginning of the first quarter allowing the Geoducks to take a two-point lead. Baskets from Jillian Jin and Alyx Crager helped get the Pioneers' offense rolling. There was a two-minute period where both the Geoducks and Pioneers did not score until Sara Hogman made a lay-up to help the Pioneers gain back momentum to finish the first quarter with a lead. The Pioneers' continued to keep the lead the entire first half.
At the end of the third quarter, the Pioneers lead by six points with Alyx Crager making a three-pointer in the last two-minutes of the quarter. The Pioneers' offense continued to put pressure on the Geoducks with Alyx Crager leading them with 12 points in the fourth quarter alone. The Geoducks gained some momentum with back to back baskets late in the fourth quarter. Janessa Willie went 4-4 from the free throw line in the last seven seconds of the game to help the Pioneers secure the win.

The Pioneers go on the road to continue their play in the Bruin Classic tomorrow against St. Thomas (Minn.) at George Fox with the start time of 5 PM.
