HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Leading the Pioneers in scoring and rebounding as a freshman, Delsie Johnson earned the title of Northwest Conference Freshman of the Year in addition to an All-NWC Honorable Mention selection, the organization announced today.
Johnson led the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 13.4 points per game, the 12th best average in the NWC. She also finished fourth in the NWC in rebounds per game (8.6), and third in the conference in total offensive rebounds (87). Johnson also led the Pioneers in shooting percentage, going 47.4 percent from the field. She finished the season with 334 points, 216 rebounds and 20 steals.
Johnson's selection makes her the first Lewis & Clark women's basketball athlete to receive the Freshman of the Year award. The Pioneers have had an athlete selected for an All-NWC award in 12 of the last 13 seasons. Johnson was the only freshman All-NWC selection this year.
The Pioneers finished the season with a 2-23 record and a 1-15 mark in conference under the direction of former Lewis & Clark athlete Kristina Williams, who is in her first season leading the program. The Pioneers graduated four seniors and will return a young team next year. Eight freshmen, including Johnson and sophomore point guard Jillian Jin are expected to return for the 2019-2020 season.
