WOODBURN, Ore. -- Sofia Vigil posted a 16-over-par 87 and sits in a tie for fourth place to lead the Lewis & Clark Pioneers at the Willamette Spring Thaw, which opened on Friday at the OGA Golf Course. The Pios are the defending champion at the event.
Vigil is nine strokes off the lead and one stroke ahead of teammate Annika Clunk, who is in a three-way tie for sixth place. Clunk posted an opening-round 17-over-par 88.
The Pioneers are competing in their final tune-up before the Northwest Conference Championship next weekend at Tacoma Country Club in Tacoma, Wash.
George Fox's Janelle Decker leads the field with a 78, one stroke ahead of Whitworth's Maggie Peters. Whitworth leads Lewis & Clark by 25 strokes for first place.The final round begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Clunk will be the final Lewis & Clark golfer to tee off at 10:27 a.m. with Cheyenne Marchand of Whitworth, who is in 10th place.
