Pios allow two goals in first half and lose at Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. -- Goals in the 13th and 14th minute by Puget Sound were enough to keep Lewis & Clark from a Northwest Conference win on Sunday afternoon at Peyton Field. The Pioneers lost 2-1 after scores by Tess Peppis and Grayson Williams-Krebs of the Loggers.

Alexa Hanson scored her first collegiate goal on a free kick in the 79th minute to bring Lewis & Clark within one late. Her score was the only one for Lewis & Clark, which was outshot 12-5 in the game. The Pios had only one other shot attempt, one that missed wide by Anna Saucedo, in the second half. Puget Sound also outnumbered the Pioneers in corner kicks, 6-0.

Emily Schmelling played the first eight minutes of the game in goal before Hannah Osmundson took over and played the rest of the match. Osmundson faced all of Puget Sound's shots and made four saves against six tries on goal.

Rochelle Jordan, Mali PetersonWood and Erin Lutz had Lewis & Clark's first-half shot attempts. The Pios leading scorer, Caroline Hennes, was kept without a shot.

The two goals by Puget Sound (9-1-2; 5-0-2 NWC) occurred less than a minute apart. Peppis scored off a cross from the right side and the ball glanced off Osmundson's hand and into the goal. Williams-Krebs scored 49 seconds later.

Lewis & Clark (4-8; 3-5 NWC) starts the second half of the NWC schedule on Wednesday as the Pios host George Fox.
