Hennes scores her league-leading seventh of the season in 2-1 home loss for Pios

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 35-yard goal from the right side by Caroline Hennes cut the Linfield Wildcats lead in half, but the Lewis & Clark Pioneers didn't complete a comeback effort in a 2-1 loss at Griswold Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Hennes put the long-range shot off the fingertips of Linfield's starting goalkeeper, Sarah Bailey, to bring the Pios within one score in the 71st minute. She nearly scored again in the 82nd minute on a free kick, but it sailed high. Her seven goals this year is tied for the Northwest Conference lead with Grayson Williams-Krebs of Puget Sound.

Linfield (4-7-3, 4-3-3 NWC) scored in the 31st minute on Mary Cait Moriarty's free kick goal from 60 yards out and Amidee Colleknon's 45th minute goal. The Wildcats held an advantage in shots, 19-13, and corner kicks, 4-3. Colette Sims had a shot in the 37th minute hit off the crossbar.

Hannah Osmundson started the game in goal and allowed the two goals in the first half. Playing in her second match since Sept. 11, Emily Schmelling entered in the second half and made four saves.

In a physical match, Rochelle Jordan was issued a yellow card in the 31st minute and the Linfield bench was issued one in the 64th.

The loss is the third in four matches for the Pioneers (5-9-0; 4-6-0 NWC), who are now sixth in the Northwest Conference.

Lewis & Clark hosts Pacific on Saturday in its second-to-last home match.
