PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark finished the weekend with another tough loss, 5-1, to the Whitworth Pirates on Sunday at Griswold Stadium. The defeat brings the Pios record to 2-7-1 in Northwest Conference play. The five goals allowed were the most given up by the Pioneers this season.
In the first 25 minutes, the Pioneers took the first two shots of the half and were able to keep up with the Pirates. Whitworth was then able to pull away from the Pioneers off of three first-half goals. The third came off a penalty kick.
Lewis & Clark was able to answer back in the start of the second half with a goal by Courtney Schmidt in the 51st minute off a pass from Kennie Beighle, the lone score for Lewis & Clark and Schmidt's second of her career. Whitworth would go on to score two more goals in the half.
The Pios finished the match with a total of six shots, two of them on-goal.
"I think this next half of the season we are coming on a positive stride," said sophomore Anna Saucedo. "I know today was a tough loss but I definitely think that we can extract some positives from this game and build on it in the future."
