NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers (3-12-1, 1-11-1 NWC) allowed two goals, one in each half to lose to the George Fox Bruins (5-8-2, 3-8-2 NWC) and even the season series after winning the first game 1-0. The Pioneers continue to struggle to find the back of the net having been shutout in 12 of their last 14 games.
George Fox controlled possession for much of the first half but this gave way to back and forth possessions as the game went on. The Pioneers' lack of a goal was not due to lack of chances by the Pioneers. The Pioneers matched their conference play season-high of both total shots (12) and shots on goal (6).
As the final minute of the first half came to a close the Pioneers backline attempted to clear a ball in the box but the clearance was picked off by George Fox midfielder Katlyn Martinez. Martinez took a shot from the top of the box and snuck the ball in the bottom right corner, out of the reach of Pioneers keeper Megan Sawyer, to put the Bruins up 1-0 going into halftime.
It didn't take long for the Bruins to strike again. In the 57th minute, George Fox midfielder Megan Harrington sailed a cross into the box and found forward Savannah Moisan who redirected it into the back of the net to put the Bruins up 2-0.
- Gianna Losson led the Pioneers with a season-high three shots on goal
- Megan Sawyer had six saves
- Defender Terra Clarke took her first shot of the season
- The Pioneers matched the Bruins in total shots with 12
The Pioneers continue conference play on the road against Pacific Lutheran on Sat. Oct. 27.
