HILLSBORO, Ore. -- In her first two starts for the Pioneers, freshman Ella Viesturs took ten shots on goal with three of them finding the back of the net to earn her Northwest Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, as well as the women's Pioneers of the Week selection.
The Pioneers went undefeated in their first weekend of competition. A goal from both Viesturs and teammate Anna Saucedo brought the team back from a 2-0 deficit to force a draw against visiting Carroll. Two more goals from Viesturs in Sunday's home game helped the Pioneers to a 4-1 victory against Fontbonne.
Viesturs' three goals match the second most by any Pioneers student-athlete in the last two years.
A freshman from Sun Valley, Idaho, Viesturs was a four-time all-conference selection in high school and was voted the most valuable player of the state tournament in 2016. She "was drawn to Lewis & Clark by its academics, the opportunity to play soccer and its wonderful location."
The Pioneers play two more home games this weekend hosting UC-Santa Cruz on Saturday and Chapman on Sunday.
