PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark swept the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the week for women's soccer after the Pios won four of their last five contests and swept the number two and number three teams in the conference. Freshman forward Julia Markmann was named Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week while freshman defender Madi Pastores was named Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
Markman's overtime winner last Saturday gave the Pios their first win over Puget Sound since 2016 and just their second since the program was restarted in 2004. Markmann led the team in shots against the Loggers, as well as in Wednesday's win over the Willamette Bearcats, where she assisted on both goals. She leads the team in shots on the season with 47, putting her at third in the conference.
Pastores has been a defensive leader for the Pioneers, playing a key role in Lewis & Clark's victory over the Bearcats as the Pios held them to seven shots, their second-lowest in all of NWC play. Outside of Willamette and Pacific Lutheran, Lewis & Clark was the only team in NWC play this season to hold Puget Sound to a sub-.100 shot percentage, with only three of the Loggers' 15 shots making it close to the frame, including the only goal allowed in the Pios' 2-1 victory.
The Pioneers play their final two games of the season this weekend, taking on Whitman on Saturday and Whitworth on Sunday. The Pios kickoff against the Blues at 12 p.m Saturday afternoon. Sunday the Pios will celebrate their seniors when they take on Whitworth with another 12 p.m. kickoff.
